It was impossible to produce quality Awamori for over ten years after World War ll. During that time people began to prefer drinking western liquors like beer and whiskey.
Kamimura Distillery created an Awamori as a response that combined the best parts of whiskey with Awamori. This was the birth of “Danryu”. The most distinctive feature of ”Danryu” is a rich whiskey aroma. However, unlike whiskey, you can feel texture of long grain rice which produces a unique sweet flavour exclusive to Awamori.
